The two of them are lifelong lovers of the water — the kind of couple who plan their travels around the best surf in the world. So when it came time to decide where to get married, Hawaii wasn't just a dream. It was the obvious choice. They brought us along to photograph and film an intimate destination wedding at the Four Seasons Resort Oahu at Ko Olina, and the whole day felt like an extension of who they are: warm, adventurous, deeply in love, and completely at home beside the Pacific.
John and I are an Orange County–based wedding photography and videography duo, and we travel for destination weddings all over the world. The Venue: Four Seasons Resort Oahu at Ko Olina
Tucked along the sun-drenched leeward coast of Oahu in Kapolei, the Four Seasons Resort Oahu at Ko Olina is one of the most beautiful places we've ever worked. The resort sits right on the water, with the Waianae mountain range rising behind it and Oahu's legendary sunsets pouring over everything at the end of the day.
For an intimate wedding like Max and Geri's, the resort's Wedding Chapel is a showstopper. It's a charming freestanding building topped with a bell tower, built of lava stone, with a vaulted wood-beam ceiling and a dramatic arched window that frames the greenery and ocean light beyond. It's air-conditioned and beautifully private — perfect for a smaller destination guest list who came a long way to be there.
And then there's everything just outside the chapel doors: palm-lined lawns, tropical gardens, and a rugged lava-rock shoreline that becomes pure magic at golden hour. As destination wedding photographers and videographers, we're always chasing that combination of great architecture and great light, and the Four Seasons Oahu has both in abundance.
Getting Ready
The morning was slow and joyful — exactly how a wedding day should start. Geri got ready surrounded by her bridesmaids in matching silk robes, laughing between hair and makeup, sunlight filling the suite. One of the most moving moments of the whole day happened here, quietly: Geri gave her mom a beautifully embroidered handkerchief, and the two of them shared a tearful, wordless moment together. This is the kind of frame you can't stage and can't script — and it's exactly what a documentary approach is built to catch.
Down the hall, Max got into his crisp navy tuxedo with the help of his guys, palm trees swaying just outside the window. We also took our time with the details: Geri's pearl-embellished heels, the rings, a single white ranunculus — small things that carry a whole lot of memory.
The Wedding Chapel Ceremony
When it was time, Max and Geri exchanged vows inside the resort's intimate chapel, framed by that soaring arched window and simple white florals lining the aisle. There's a stillness to a chapel ceremony — the light is soft, the space is quiet, and every glance and breath feels amplified. With John on photo and me on cinema, we made sure the two of them never had to think about us. They just got to be present with each other, and we captured all of it.
Portraits — From the Lawn to the Lava Rock
After the ceremony, the celebration spilled out onto the grounds. We grabbed some genuinely joyful frames on the lawn — Max lifting Geri off her feet, her veil catching the trade winds in front of the chapel's arched window, playful editorial moments that showed off their easy chemistry.
But the images we'll remember most came at the end of the day, out on the lava-rock shoreline as the sun dropped behind the Waianae mountains. For a couple who built their love around the ocean, standing there together at golden hour — Pacific waves at their feet, sky lit up behind them — it was the perfect full-circle moment. Editorial polish meets documentary honesty, right at the water's edge.
An Intimate Reception
The reception was small, warm, and full of heart. Guests gathered around a single long table set with white calla lilies, greenery, and candlelight, the resort glowing through the windows behind them. There were toasts and a few happy tears, a two-tier white cake dressed in fresh flowers, and live acoustic music that gave the whole evening a relaxed, intimate rhythm. Watching Max and Geri laugh their way through dinner with the people they love most — that's the good stuff. That's the whole point.
