A Celebration to Remember: Max & Geri's Dove Canyon Golf Club Wedding Reception

Orange County Wedding Photography & Videography, a reception celebration, filmed and photographed by Daydream Creative Weddings

Some weddings are quiet and intimate. Some are a full-blown party. Max and Geri got to have both.

Earlier, the two of them exchanged vows in an intimate ceremony on the island of Oahu — you can see their Four Seasons Ko Olina celebration here. This day was the other half of their story: the big celebration back home in Orange County, where all the friends and family who couldn't make the trip to Hawaii could finally raise a glass with them. No ceremony, no schedule to hijack — just portraits, an incredible dinner, and dancing until the lights came up. Honestly? It was one of the most fun nights we've documented all year.

John and I are an Orange County–based photography and videography team, and our style is aesthetically editorial with a documentary heart. A reception-only celebration like this is where both halves of that really shine — there's time for beautiful, intentional portraits and room to just chase the energy of a room full of people who love each other. Here's how the night came together at the Dove Canyon Golf Club.

The Venue: Dove Canyon Golf Club

Tucked into the hills of Trabuco Canyon in South Orange County — near Rancho Santa Margarita and Coto de Caza — Dove Canyon Golf Club sits inside a private, gated golf community with sweeping canyon and mountain views. If you've never been past the gates, it feels like a secluded retreat that just happens to be minutes from everything.

The clubhouse is a stunner: a mid-century modern, Frank Lloyd Wright–inspired design with grand wooden beams, extensive stonework, and floor-to-ceiling windows that pull those rolling green views right into the room. Cocktail hour happens in The Lounge, with its stacked-stone fireplaces and skylights, and dinner unfolds in Dove Hall looking out over the canyon. And then there's the crown jewel of the property for photos — a 175-year-old oak tree that has more character than most buildings. As a photography and videography team, we were spoiled for backdrops all night.

Golden-Hour Portraits on the Golf Course

Before the party kicked off, we stole Max and Geri away for portraits while the light was doing something magical over the golf course. This is where their personalities really came out — playful, a little goofy, completely comfortable with each other. We shot editorial frames out on the fairway with the canyon hills rolling behind them, a few romantic moments in the shade of that giant oak, and (our favorite) a cameo from their French bulldog, who was very much a member of the wedding party.

We also grabbed relaxed portraits with the groomsmen under the oak and some quieter, editorial moments of Geri and her cascading calla lily bouquet. Editorial polish and documentary honesty, side by side — exactly how we like to work.

Cocktail Hour in The Lounge

As guests arrived, cocktail hour filled The Lounge — that gorgeous clubhouse space with the stone fireplace and the big windows framing the hills. There were hugs, first-sips, and a lot of "we haven't seen you since—!" moments. These in-between candids are some of the frames couples end up treasuring most, precisely because nobody's posing for them.

The Grand Entrance

Then came the entrance — and Max and Geri did not hold back. Bouquet in the air, guests waving napkins, the whole room erupting as they burst in. If you want a single frame that captures the energy of the entire night, it's that one. From there, the celebration never really slowed down.

Dinner, Toasts & a Surfboard Guest Book

Dinner in Dove Hall came with all the good stuff: heartfelt toasts from the maid of honor and best man, the kind that make the whole room laugh and tear up in the same breath, and Max and Geri's unfiltered reactions from the sweetheart table (we live for those). There was a tender father-daughter dance, too — one of the softer, more emotional beats of an otherwise high-octane night.

One detail we loved: instead of a traditional guest book, they had guests sign a surfboard — a perfect nod to the ocean-loving couple who'd started their wedding week in Hawaii. It's exactly the kind of personal touch that makes a celebration feel like them.

Dancing the Night Away

And then the dance floor opened, and that was pretty much it for the rest of the night. This is where flash photography earns its keep — the packed floor, the colored lights, the candid chaos of people genuinely losing themselves in the music. Max and Geri were right in the middle of all of it. We chased the energy with our cameras until the very last song, and the gallery from that part of the night is pure joy.

Why We Love Documenting Receptions at Dove Canyon Golf Club

If you're a couple searching for a Dove Canyon Golf Club wedding photographer and videographer — whether you're planning a full wedding day or a reception-only celebration like Max and Geri's — this venue delivers. Between the golf-course portrait light, the FLW-inspired clubhouse, the 175-year-old oak, and canyon views from every window, it's a dream to shoot both photo and cinema here.

A reception-only party is also just a genuinely great format, and one more couples should consider. When there's no ceremony timeline to manage, the whole event can lean all the way into celebration — which is exactly the kind of fun, outgoing energy we love to capture.

Planning a Dove Canyon Golf Club Wedding or Reception?

If you're dreaming up a celebration at Dove Canyon — or a reception-only party of your own — John and I would love to hear about it! We work best with couples who are fun and outgoing, who value the artistry of both photography and cinema, and who see their wedding as the truly once-in-a-lifetime moment it is.

We keep our calendar intentionally limited so every couple gets our full attention. If that sounds like you, reach out through our contact page and tell us all about your day. We can't wait to help you relive the day you always dreamed of.
